Timeline of The Garden UniverseThis section is dedicated to a general timeline of The Garden Universe at large, from the birth of galaxies to sophont civilizations, from construction of great transportation and communications networks to great wars. Here, humanity is but a footnote in the grand history of the universe, part of something much greater. |
Development NotesWill
undergo major additions and revisions as the details are precipitated out of
brainstorming and discussions. Last Updated 5.13.2009

The Planetary Classification
Scheme
The variety of worlds in The Garden Universe is dizzying and most worlds cannot be so easily described as Earthlike, Mars-like, etc. To make sense out of all the worlds humanity was discovering, The Science and Exploration Society created a system of classification, one based on modern observations and ancient speculative attempts. The result was The Planetary Classification Scheme. |

GalactographyThe universe is a very big place home to billions and billions of galaxies each with millions, billions or even trillions of stars. No sophont race has ever explored any appreciable fraction of them all and few known races have explored much beyond The Local Group. Listed here are those galaxies which have been explored or analyzed in detail. |

Sophonts of The Garden UniverseEvolution is a natural process by which lifeforms adapt to changing environments. A not so uncommon result of this is intelligence, the ability to learn and change behavior as a result of new information. Freed from solely instinctual lifestyles, lifeforms may adapt more readily. This intelligence may be encouraged and develop to the point of sentience, self-awareness. Sophont beings that also develop the ability to manipulate their environment will often develop societies, some even develop civilizations. Civilizations will often develop increasingly advanced technology, some may even attain space travel and ultimately, star travel. Most races die off before they reach this goal, but those that do, usually remain for a very long time. The Garden Universe is home to countless races, some primitive, some advanced beyond reckoning. Listed here is but a small sample. |
Development NotesAll
or most races previewed within will eventually get their own pages, which
will describe them in far greater detail.
New races will be added pending the imagination of myself and where I
approve, the imagination of others. Last Updated 3.13.2010

Relevant LinksThere exist other online sci-fi projects, some far in the future, some closer and some that do not specify a timeline. Some stretch across galaxies, others pertain to a single world. Many of these have been a great inspiration to me, even if in only a small area. |
